Hello, my name is Tamara and I am a Global Nomad. From a young age, I had the privilege of living in and exploring many countries, including many developing nations. My favorite memories from my adventures were times when I was just present, observing life around me. When we can slow down and be absorbed by the moment, we ….

I walked the St James Way, or the Camino Ingles from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2008. From the first steps through the Pyrenees accompanied by the remote sound of cowbells to the last steps into the pilgrim office in Santiago de Compostela, the trail was magical! It is a living trail…..providing challenge and reward to all ready for the journey. But more than that, the magic came from the immense joy and gratitude you feel as you move your feet one step at a time. Sometimes you would chat with a stranger as you both traverse over new territory. It was always new territory to the senses. Each moment was completely new and alive! Then, other days you would choose to walk alone, partially absorbed by your thoughts, using the trail as a couch and the sun as your therapist.
My feet physically walked the Camino 16 years ago. And, yet, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about that journey. The adult responsibilities of working and tending to the domestic needs of a family have left little time for returning to the Camino or exploring other pilgrimage trails. I live with a degree of perpetual wanderlust as I float through my life. This website is my outlet for my travel longings.
Oh wait – did you want to know about me, like when I am not curating Caminos? Like I mentioned above, I had the privilege of growing up in countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Honduras. I met my soulmate in Florida while I was working in my first midwifery job. From there we continued our life journey together roaming to Weslaco along the Texas/Mexico border, Hawaii, Portugal and California. We have grown shallow roots here in San Diego county as we raise our two radiant teenage girls and our affectionate and mischievous dogs! When I am working as a midwife, I love soaking in the sun through frequent hikes with our year-round gorgeous weather. I use our summer vacations to discover new global adventures. I also love swimming in the ocean when the water is warm enough. And I love playing with plants in my vegetable garden and my Japanese garden. Lately, my daughter and I have started crafting together using Woobles crochet project kits! There is SO MUCH to explore in the world, how can I choose just one!
So slow down and come join me…tell me about your own travel adventures (I live vicariously through everyone’s travel these days)! And explore new trails as I add to my Camino collection. Let’s appreciate the beauty in all the layers of the present moment, whether it is the magic in the mundane or discovering new lands. Renew your passion for adventure and excitement of discovery through Urban Camino.
